1. How to complain
Use Report on the relevant review or profile, submit the Help & Safety form in the app, or email hello@ratemyinstructor.co.uk. Using the in-app report tool helps attach the correct content reference.
2. Information to include
Identify the instructor profile, review, account or other content; provide the relevant wording or screenshot where available; explain why it is inaccurate, fake, unlawful, private or otherwise in breach; provide supporting facts; state your relationship to the issue; and explain the outcome requested. Include a contact email so we can follow up.
3. Defamation complaints
A defamation complaint should identify the exact statement and where it appears, explain the meaning you believe it conveys, explain why it is false and seriously harmful, identify the person affected, provide supporting facts and state whether you are the person affected or authorised to act for them. We may seek information from the reviewer and may restrict content while a complaint is assessed where appropriate.
4. Privacy and personal-data complaints
Explain what personal information is involved, where it appears, why its use is inappropriate and whether you seek access, correction, restriction, objection or deletion. We may need to verify identity or authority before disclosing or changing personal information.
5. Illegal or urgent content
Clearly mark reports involving threats, stalking, fraud, hate, sexual exploitation, doxxing or other potentially illegal content. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services first. Rate My Instructor may preserve relevant records and cooperate with lawful requests from authorities.
6. What happens next
The complaint is logged and assessed according to its nature and risk. We may request further information, contact another relevant party and take temporary or final action. Possible outcomes include no change, correction, restriction, removal, account action, evidence preservation or referral to an appropriate authority.
7. Appeals
A person directly affected by a moderation decision may request an appeal by identifying the decision and explaining why it should be changed. Relevant new evidence should be included. We will review the information fairly, but an appeal does not guarantee a different outcome.
8. Confidentiality and disclosure
Report details are not displayed publicly. Information may be shared where reasonably necessary to investigate the issue, obtain a response, protect legal rights, comply with law or respond to a regulator, court or law-enforcement body. We will not automatically disclose a reviewer’s private account details to an instructor.
9. Records
We keep proportionate complaint and moderation records to resolve disputes, identify repeated misuse, demonstrate fair handling and meet legal requirements. Retention depends on the seriousness and status of the matter.
10. Contact
Content complaints, legal notices and appeals can be sent to hello@ratemyinstructor.co.uk.
